µLED team
The µLED team focuses on the development of light-emitting diodes (LEDs), micro-LEDs, and micro-displays based on III-nitrides.
Our work aims to create innovative approaches related to epitaxy and nano- and micro-structuring to enhance the performance of
LEDs that emit in challenging wavelength ranges: specifically, long wavelengths for red light and short wavelengths for ultraviolet B and C.
Currently, the wall-plug efficiency of components operating at these wavelengths is less than 5-10%, while the best blue LEDs achieve
efficiencies over 80%.
In addition to vision-related applications, we are also targeting devices designed for communication using visible light (VLC) and
ultraviolet light. This area, particularly for UV light, has been relatively underexplored and holds promising potential for high
data rate communication, especially in aquatic environments.
