Polaritonic

In a system where the optical excitation of a semiconductor is enhanced by a photonic cavity, the system’s eigenstates become mixed, of the exciton-photon type, and are referred to as polaritons. We are conducting research aimed at manipulating these light fluids, in particular to lower the threshold of polariton lasers and maximize optical nonlinearities in order to realize polariton circuits for computing.

GaN polariton lasers with very short cavities

Members of the team fabricated horizontal GaN laser cavities with vertical Bragg reflectors (DBR). A laser was demonstrated by pumping only a short section of the cavity. This paves the way for more compact micro-lasers with nonlinear capabilities for integrated photonics.
